Jesus Suffered to Succour Us

JESUS CHRIST SUFFERED BEING TEMPTED IS ABLE

TO SUCCOUR THEM THAT ARE TEMPTED

Our title came from where the Apostle said: “For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted.”

Hebrews 2:18

According to Webster, the word succour is pronounced as the boney fish: “sucker.”  The word succour means: To help, aid, assist, assistance, comfort, lift, relief, secure, support, maintain, nourishment, and sustenance.  JESUS met all of those criteria with much to spare. 

The definition of succoring cannot be better defined than where one said:  “The will of God will not take you where the Grace of God will not succour thee.” (Author unknown)

When describing JESUS’ ability to assist or succour His saints the psalmist said: “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” 

Psalms 46:1

And he said of the Master, JESUS is an all sufficient help when needed. 

We begin where Matthew witnessed and recorded:  “Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.   But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?

And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfill all righteousness. Then he suffered him.

And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:

And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”

Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.

And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred.

And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread. [4] But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple,

And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.

Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.  Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;

And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.

Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.  Matthew 3:13-4:1-11

(In that ordeal JESUS was tempted by both the devil and Satan, You will find that both names are underscored.)

Now the succoring that JESUS accomplished begin at His Baptizing and ended at His death three and half years later, and it was in force from the foundation of the world, thus Matthew said: “And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred.” Matthew 4:2 

Yea, seeing JESUS neither ate or drink drank water during that forty days and forty nights enabled Him to succour men such as Elijah and Moses whom were confronted with similar circumstances.

Elijah, after his flight from Jezebel was completely exhausted, the angel of the Lord came and touched him and said: “Arise and eat; because the journey is too great for thee. And he arose, and did eat and drink, he went in the strength of that meat forty days and forty nights unto Horeb the mount of God.

1 Kings 19:7-8

Then there is where the LORD told Moses to separate himself from the children of Israel and go upon Mount Sinai to receive the Ten Commandments which he received on two tables of stone.

The LORD’S sustenance embraced Moses and therefore he wrote: “Then I abode in the mount forty days and forty nights, I neither did eat bread nor drink water:” Deuteronomy 9:9

In preparing Himself to succour the Homeless, Jesus said, Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.   Luke told us: And in the day time he was teaching in the temple; and at night he went out, and abode in the mount that is called the mount of Olives.” Luke 21:37   

In preparation for the task of succoring, it was the will of GOD that JESUS

should suffer, hence He faced the “The original sin,” whom John called the beast with two heads in Revelation 13:3.  In another place he called him old serpent, the devil and Satan in Revelation 20:2.

John said of that loud mouthed blasphemer: “And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months.” Revelation 13:5  In other words he shrouded JESUS through His ministry.

Now when translated into days it is a  thousand two hundred and three score days,(1260 days.) that was the number of days between the anoint of JESUS, at His Baptizing  and His death by crucifixion.   That number of days translates into forty two months or three an half years. We find all three in the Holy Scripture.

Now JESUS was subjected to the devil and satan the first forty days and nights of His ministry and that was of a spiritual nature notwithstanding on several occasions He dwelt with him through the religious Jews.   One such an occasion was when He rebuked a number of them with: “Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?” Matthew 23:3

Shortly after Judas sold JESUS for thirty pieces of silver that mob brought JESUS to Pilate to be judged.

Now at that feast the governor was wont to release unto the people a prisoner, whom they would.  And they had then a notable prisoner, called Barabbas.  Therefore when they were gathered together, Pilate said unto them, Whom will ye that I release unto you? Barabbas, or Jesus which is called Christ?  For he knew that for envy they had delivered him.  When he was set down on the judgment seat, his wife sent unto him, saying, Have thou nothing to do with that just man: for I have suffered many things this day in a dream because of him.  But the chief priests and elders persuaded the multitude that they should ask Barabbas, and destroy Jesus.  The governor answered and said unto them, Whether of the twain will ye that I release unto you? They said, Barabbas.  Pilate saith unto them, What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ? They all say unto him, Let him be crucified.  And the governor said, Why, what evil hath he done? But they cried out the more, saying, Let him be crucified.” Matthew 27:15-23

And said Matthew: “Then released he Barabbas unto them: and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified.” Matthew 27:26

Now in order for JESUS to pay sins debt it was necessary that He suffer to the uttermost  then shed His blood, most Precious, thus the Cross, therefore at the third hour of the day they crucified JESUS and at the ninth hour: “When Jesus had cried with a loud voice, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost.”   Luke 23:46

“And when he knew it of the centurion, he gave the body to Joseph.  And he bought fine linen, and took him down, and wrapped him in the linen, and laid him in a sepulchre which was hewn out of a rock, and rolled a stone unto the door of the sepulchre.  And Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses beheld where he was laid.” Mark 15:45-47

And very early in the morning the first day of the week, they came unto the sepulchre at the rising of the sun.  And they said among themselves, Who shall roll us away the stone from the door of the sepulchre?  And when they looked, they saw that the stone was rolled away: for it was very great.  And entering into the sepulchre, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, clothed in a long white garment; and they were affrighted.  And he saith unto them, Be not affrighted: Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, which was crucified: he is risen; he is not here: behold the place where they laid him.  But go your way, tell his disciples and Peter that he goeth before you into Galilee: there shall ye see him, as he said unto you.  And they went out quickly, and fled from the sepulchre; for they trembled and were amazed: neither said they any thing to any man; for they were afraid.  Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils.” Mark 16:2-9

Furthermore the Apostle Paul weighed in with:  “For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;  And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:  And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep.  After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles.

And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time.”
1 Corinthians 15:3-8    

Luke said: Now when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.” Acts 2:1    

 

The Elect of Israel was baptized back into the Kingdom from which they were cast out, as was prophesied to be given to them by Father GOD.

Remember what JESUS told them in Luke 12:32, “Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom”.

Ah, but the saved Gentiles were not Baptized into the Kingdom at that time but they were brought into the outer court of the kingdom. John told it on this wise, He wrote: “There was given me a reed like unto a rod: and the angel stood, saying, Rise, and measure the temple of God, and the altar, and them that worship therein. But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months.” Revelation 11:1-2

Even though the Gentiles were saved, as were the Israelites Paul said, “Now I say that Jesus Christ was a minister of the circumcision for the truth of God, to confirm the promises made unto the fathers:” Romans 15:8

(For that reason Paul said: “To the Jew first and also to the Gentiles.”)

You’ll find that to be true during the New Testament. 

And yea, Cornelius, the Centurion and the Canaanite woman and the gests of his house were brought into the inner Court of the Kingdom.

You know what?  The basic operation of the Holy Ghost was to baptize the redeemed of God into the Body of CHRIST and give them the gifts of the Spirit.

Paul said: “He gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ.” Ephesians 4:11-13   

Yea, Just before JESUS ascended into the Heaven of Heavens, He charged His disciples: “ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.” Acts 1:8 

With the seven year Covenant of protection still in force, John described via an allegory how the LORD succored His Ministers.

He wrote: “And the woman, (The Church) fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days.” Revelation 12:6

Now the thousand two hundred and three score days which are three and half years completed the Covenant of safety that the MESSIAH (JESUS) made with His disciples which ended after Samaria heard the Gospel, after the Jews killed Steven.

Yea, they (the Saints) got the job done. The great Apostle asked: “But I

say, have they not heard? Yes verily, their sound went into all the earth, and their words unto the ends of the world.” Romans 10:18    

(That thousand and two hundred and three score days is, when converted is three and a half years.)

As for the lost world, the great apostle addressed that issue also when he quoted Jesus as saying: “… I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succored thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.”   2 Corinthians 6:2

Now in closing I’ve only commented on the events that correspond with the time of forty days and nights and other events wherein JESUS succored His saint or saints the entire time of His succoring whether three and half years, forty and two months or a thousand and two hundred and threescore days, while leaving out the many others whereas the endured time was not listed.
